Day Two - Topeka, Kansas to Dayton, Ohio
We were on the road at 7 a.m., feeling energized to be on our way to Spain, at last! (If you're just joining our adventure, we left our home in Colorado Springs on December 13, 2023, to begin a cross-country drive that will end with our relocation to Malaga. Day one we traveled to Topeka, Kansas.) After a much-needed rest in Topeka, we awoke very early to begin Day Two of our journey to Dayton, Ohio
When making these types of trips, I recommend gauging potential rush hour traffic and planning your drive accordingly. Nothing is worse than being stuck in traffic jams with anxious pups that need to potty!
Sometimes, that means getting up and on the road super early like we did, to avoid rush hour in Kansas City.
We had an easy and uneventful drive into Ohio, where we encountered some detours due to construction and had to double back to our destination. Our destination was the Residence Inn by Marriott Dayton Beavercreek.
You may wonder why our hotels are almost always under the Marriott banner. There are a few reasons.
- We have lifetime status with Marriott. That means sometimes we get perks or upgrades. And of course we are either earning points or redeeming them each time we stay.
- Marriott has a large catalog of hotels that are pet-friendly.
- They are a trusted corporate brand. If anything goes wrong, we know they will make us whole.
Right now, we aren't receiving any affiliate payments from Marriott. My recommendations are solely based on our experiences and personal choice.
This particular hotel had some really amazing features due to its location, including:
- It is in a business district so the area was super quiet. We appreciated the lack of noise for our pack.
- There was a gas station very close by so we were able to fuel up before heading out onto the main road.
- It is located offset from a mall and several restaurants. Although we were not there during mall hours, we enjoyed finally being able to grab a decent meal. We had delicious steaks at Black Rock before calling it a day.
The room itself was very spacious with a kitchenette and plenty of floor space for our pups to stretch out.
Once again, we got on the road early, around 7 AM. Although the drive time was the shortest of the trip in theory, we knew we would be driving into New York City, and the reality would be much different.
